Resin Time is Anytime; ETI Resin Project

Standard

A little while ago I shared a project I worked on for a CHA installation created by Carmi Cimicata for ETI Resin.

Over 80 bezels were created for the Resin Time is Anytime project.

I was recently given the opportunity by the amazing Carmi Cimicata

to participate in a project for the CHA2014 Mega Show.

Carmi sent out these beautiful watch bezels and asked us to make whatever we wanted with them. Because I had the best resin teacher in the world, I wanted to create something I would love, but also something that I hoped would make Carmi proud of the impact she had on my creativity!

Into my bezel I placed: one vintage postage stamp, 5 amber crystals, and black quilled paper.  All the paper was given 3 coats of DecoArt decoupage medium to properly seal and protect the paper from the unforgiving elements of the resin. The crystals are also chosen carefully because plastic embellishments can/may disintegrate once the resin is poured.
Once the resin (I used ETI  Envirotex Lite resin) was cured for 48 hours I added the little hand (Recollections? embellishment perhaps) with Beacon’s 3-in-1 glue. This glue is wonderful because it dries quickly and clear for a strong blond.
I added the hand as my take on a ‘clock hand’.

The patina was added with a combination of  StudioG chalk ink (Michaels), Clearsnap  green Smooch, and a little silver Rub n Buff.
What fun!

And here is Carmi’s post with my submission. Please check out all the stunning submissions and explore Carmi’s blog.

Smooch Spritz Shaving Cream Creates…

Standard

I love being able to test and play with so many craft products.  As a Michaels Instructor I was able to demo the SMOOCH line of spritzes and inks.
One of the techniques was dropping the inks into a shallow container of water and letting them swirl, resulting in a beautiful marble effect after you quickly lay a piece of cardstock on the surface and then remove it.
So that got me thinking:  What else can I try to put the sprays and inks in that would not dissolve them to the degree that the water does…… and then I thought, SHAVING CREAM!

I grabbed a little can from my ‘stash’ and practically flew down 2 flights of stairs to my studio.

Here’s what happened:

The glitter isn’t showing up on this pic, but I love the effect and I think I see a tree!

The bath of cream — the aftermath.  It kind of looks angry, don’t you think?

I have other pieces drying with some cream still on them.

The way I made this sample:
I shmeared a thick layer of cream in the bin and then randomly shpritzed with the various inks and sprays.  I then placed my paper on top and pushed it down a little bit into the colour.
I then pulled the paper up and wiped off all the cream — and the colours didn’t run!

Now if only I had ‘smellovision’ 🙂

Desert Rose – paper flowers created with SCAL and Cricut

Standard

My experimentation continues!!! I now have a wonderful petal template that I also created with SCAL and cut out with my CricutWhat do you think?

I created the red flower first, using 3, 11 inch strips of petals.  I then wrapped the ‘leaves’ around the base of the flower.  For the centre of the flower I used a red crystal drape ornament.

Gold and peach Stickles were added and then I misted the flower with marshmallow Tattered Angels and Green Smooch.
I used a quilling tool to roll the leaves.
