UTEE experimentation continues

Standard

I brought my melting pot to the crop on Saturday and of course EVERYONE wanted to try it. I wanted to continue experimenting and had so much fun.

Using UTEE to make  a beautiful embellishment for a card.
The image is a gorgeous stamp from La Blanche and I used Kaleidacolor inks

I left some ink on the stamp before I placed the stamp into my pool of UTEE on my craft mat.

Colour was added when shape was cool. I used Adirondack alcohol inks in red, blue, green; Alcohol Blending Solution

Tools Used:

Suze Weinberg melting pot
silicone shape molds – floral
paint brush
Ranger Craft Mat

Liquid Pearls were added

The 3 C’s of Crafting Happiness!

Crop, Create, and Chocolate!!!

I just signed up for the January 2012 Crop & Create in Markham, Ontario, organized by Scrapbook & Cards Today.  I’m really excited and still super pumped-up from Scrapfest, which I attended a few weeks ago in Oshawa, Ontario.

It is close-to-home, which is a huge bonus, but I think I am going to stay at the hotel Friday and Saturday night just in case of inclement weather. (and I wouldn’t want to be stressing about driving conditions ‘cuz it could mess up my creative karma!).

What’s even better, it is the weekend of my 13th wedding anniversary to Sid (we were married on January 10th) and he will come with me and then I can ‘write off’ our Anniversary celebration!  (It’s at times like this that I’m glad I am also a creative accountant).

The Early Bird cost of $149 gives you a 6 foot table for all your scrapping, lots of events and challenges, food, CHOCOLATE, and a goody bag. Classes are extra and you have to be registered for the Event to sign up for any of the classes.
There are a couple of discounted class packages available 🙂

The 3 classes I am taking are:

Technique Savvy Workshop

Teacher: Vicki Boutin $10 kit fee due at time of class

 Make Your Own Embellishments
Teacher: Becky Fleck
“LifeBook 101” …a new way of thinking and journaling
Teacher: Angela Urbano

I took a class with Vicki Boutin at Scrapfest and had a most amazing time – she is fantastic! There were a few more classes I would have liked to take but the times conflicted. 😦

I can’t wait!

Exploding Book Journal

Standard
I haven’t made one of these books in a long time but it was so much fun.  Exploding books are also known as ‘Squash books’, ‘expandable books’…. you name it.
The main point is that they are fun to make, fun to complete and fun to play with.
Think, “Open and shut them, open and shut them”.

The flower is made using the bottom of a coffee cup and alcohol inks, then coated with Glossy Accents.

 The explosion begins!

A little ‘behind the scenes’ action:). FYI: The front and back covers are made from beer coasters, covered in paper:)

I hope you enjoyed my book:)  ~Robi

A special day in my Daughter’s Life – Turning 18

Standard
For Deborah
Deborah \d(e)-bo-rah\ is pronounced DEB-er-ah.
It is of Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Deborah is “bee”.  Biblical: a prophetess who summoned Barak to battle against an invading army. The victory song she wrote after the battle is part of the Book of Judges.

On September 24, 1992, my late-husband and I were blessed with a beautiful and healthy baby girl.  After having two wonderful and precious boys, we were given Deborah (named after her daddy’s grandma).
Her health was uncertain as she grew inside me.  Her father was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma when I was 3 months pregnant and the concern that somehow she may have picked up some cells or whatever, lingered over us as my husband did his rounds of chemo.  We worried so much for her and then in my 8th month, just as her father finished his chemo, the doctors suspected a mass was growing in her abdomen. Oh my god.
Thank God, it was not so and she was healthy.  We were beyond grateful and her father adored her and spent as much time as he could with her.  She brought so much light into our lives and continues to shine. I know her daddy would be very proud of the woman she has become and the fine human being she has always been.

This was fun to make!
I started with a piece of corrugated cardboard I salvaged from packing materials. I ran it through my Cuttlebug using on of the “iron works” edge embossers.  Next I inked the board with pink, blue (Autumn Leaves) and orange #20 Aladine inks. For the grande finale, I added 2 pretty little pearl brads (American Crafts)

I am making her a card a day for the week leading up to her 18th birthday.  This is the first one.

Papers used: Romanza pale green embossed paper for front and back of card; floral and fruit pattern from Melinda May for Frances Meyer; crystal sparkle patterned pink velum insert; business card stock for layering.

For edging: Fiskars paper edgers. Butterfly sticker (Susan Branch Paper Boutique), rub-on silver stitching (American Crafts trademarks).

All nicely tied up with straw from a basket I received and then dyed them white and pink.
I had taken this card to London yesterday but she insisted I take it back home, put it with the others, and she will look forward to receiving her package of cards at the end of the week.

Is anyone else addicted to colour chips???

Standard

Okay.  I have a confession to make.  I’m not particularly proud of it, but here it goes.
When my hubby goes to the local paint store or hardware store or big box home supplies store, I do not mind going with him. I usually prefer that he drops me off at the nearest Michaels location, but a trip into the ‘other’ store isn’t so bad.
I realized a long time ago that I love colour.  Can’t have enough of it.
I peruse the paint chips and select the textures and colours I like. I only go for the larger colour samples where it is easy to chop off the text.
These cards make wonderful bases for embellishments. I punch out flowers, hearts, leaves. Or I affix other embellishments to the colour chip.  It’s an easy way to do a colour block design.
The Cricut handles the thicker constructed cards as easily as slicing through butter and I also run them through my Cuttlebug.

Here’s a few pics:

The green card with the 3 shades of green is wonderful behind a multi-framed card.

Different colours, textures, sizes; the possibilities are endless:)

I would love to hear your comments!
