Getting Smashed and tINKering all in ONE Day!

Standard

Smashed is a relatively new class I teach at Michaels. I wasn’t so sure about this at first but now it has to be one of my favourite classes to teach.

Course Objectives

• Create and answer journaling prompts for expressing your artistic self.

My totally decorated Smash Book

• Use the SMASH Pen for Zentangle, lettering techniques and doodles.

What the book looks like before…
I made the book band with stretchy ribbon and Martha Stewart Clay

  •  Alter SMASH Book pages to create interactive pockets and envelopes.

and NOW for tINKer time!

Course Objectives for tINKer time Distress & Shimmer Class:

  • Use Tim Holtz Distress Inks and Ranger Perfect Pearls to create altered tags to use as page embellishments, on cards or an art display.
  •   Build backgrounds with a variety of distress techniques then add stamping for a finishing touch.
  •   Leave this class with an  understanding of Distress Ink properties and the versatility of Perfect Pearls.
  •  Use something as simple as water for  a different result each time.

We work with tags – off-white or white work the best.

Mavis did an amazing job with all the new techniques!

And, as every tINKer time class should begin: with freshly made raspberry sorbet created by chef extraordinaire Mavis Lee.  She spoils me rotten!

Busy Busy Busy

Standard

I have been SO busy! I have worked over 80 hours in the past 2 weeks which is something I am NOT used to. The new Michaels store opened in North York and there was a lot of sample-making and other preparatory work for the Grand Opening.  I still had demos and classes to teach at my other location (Michaels Markham).

The new store is beautiful!

It is very unique because it is in an urban setting, right in the heart of a very vibrant neighbourhood. The classroom is GORGEOUS! It is beautifully painted and has custom cabinetry. My favourite feature is the natural light provided by huge windows. One ‘wall of windows’ looks out onto Yonge Street and the other ‘wall of windows’ is the wall adjacent to the main entrance and foyer. There are two floors accessible by escalators and an elevator. The store is entirely wheelchair accessible and there are scooters available as well as a wheelchair.

Here are some photos to give you an idea of how I spent my first two weeks at the new store.

I think I recognize the person at the front of the line!

My Sister-in-Law Susan surprised me with a supportive visit!

I work for Michaels now! (and Life Lessons Learned)

Standard

Over the years my husband has jokingly suggested I get a job with Michaels because of how much money I spent in the store and how much time I spent in the store each time I was spending in the store. 🙂 Michaels has always been my ‘happy place’.  When things were a little ‘blue’ I could always depend on a trip to Michaels to pick me right back up and again.(making sure I always had a coupon in my wallet, of course).
As of today I am a Classroom Instructor at the Markham, Ontario location (Woodbine & Hwy 7). It has a very large classroom and is beautifully stocked with everything an artist/crafter could possibly need.
I will be teaching Scrapbooking 101  (Spotted Canary Course), but I will also be doing demos, make & takes, and having classes on mixed media, fancy card making, embellishments —-
It means that I will have to adjust my sleep schedule, which will be a major adjustment, but it is worth it.

OTHER GREAT STUFF:

When I am there, the world is my oyster! I can use/try any product or tool, experiment, and I am going to learn how to use and teach the YUDU system! Maybe Gallery Glass will pop onto the schedule?
It is a very busy store —FANTASTIC— more friends to make!

I will have to promote myself and the classes I will be conducting.  This will be done through the demos, make & takes, word-of-mouth, spending time in the department meeting/helping people, and of course, social media.

I intend to start a Facebook page for my classes. This way all participants will have a place to share ideas or ask questions, and I can also keep clients/potential clients updated on upcoming classes.

This HUGE change in my life took place over the course of  just 14 days.

LESSONS LEARNED

I love meeting people; everyone knows that. When I went to SCT’s Crop and Create 2 weeks ago, I didn’t know one person. After 1 day  I made so many new friends. After 1 day I met someone who would give me this life-changing opportunity.
So,

1- Always be nice to people
2- Be willing to ‘put yourself out there’ and strike up conversations with strangers
3- Try to always look presentable when you are in Public
4- Promote yourself because no one else will.
5- Smile.

Thank you for stopping by,
~Roberta

Crop & Create

Standard

What an Amazing weekend! Here are some highlights from

Crop & Create Markham

I used the zipper flower I made with Leica for this challenge.

Stamping Up gave us this wonderful card kit to put together — I used most of the items in another challenge I entered.

Lifebooking — The first class I took (with Angela Urbano).  I need to finish this

 Yummmy!

Vicki Boutin

Vicki Boutin Boot Camp!

I NEVER finish one of Vicki’s classes during the class. This is what the supplies looked like before we started.
Vicki’s classes are INTENSE and INCREDIBLE!

Ma piece de resistance, la creme de la creme of UGLY — and the WINNING ENTRY for the ‘Ugliest Sweater Contest”!  That was a lot of fun!

More to come — I haven’t unpacked my supplies yet, and wait till you see all the FREE goodies bestowed on us!!!

If you don’t have a Crop & Create coming to your city, then I suggest you start a petition to get one!

I have another instalment to follow —
