Walnut Hollow wood canvas Ann Butler stamps

I requested this  wood canvas specifically for making a Vintage-style jewelry display board. This Walnut Hollow wood canvas is ideal because:

“(it is great) for fiber art, hot melt art, painting, staining, rubber stamping, paper art and many other techniques. Since panel is 1.75″ thick, it acts as a framed piece ready to hang on a wall.” (Walnut Hollow website)

Using Ann Butler faux-quilting stamps makes it so easy to do this project because each stamp is 2 square inches and specifically engineered to create a continuous border.

Supplies

Walnut Hollow wood canvas
Walnut Hollow 10×10 basswood canvas

Walnut Hollow basswood 10×10 canvas
Ann Butler Kellycraft stamp set 2″ Checkered Woven Hearts

Directions
I needed to sand the edges of the wood before I could begin.
1. paint 2 coats of cool white acrylic to cover the front and sides of the wood.
This acrylic dries very quickly so there is no down time!
2.using 2″ Leaves All Over stamp a continuous outer border in Ann Butler Clearsnap aquamarine.
3. continue stamping with your choice of stamp to cover the entire surface.
4. outline the areas with black paint ( including the edge of the base).

DecoArt’s Helping Artist Program

Standard

I have been using DecoArt products for years  and jumped at the chance to be a part of this wonderful program.

I received my first shipment and it was oozing (well not literally because that would have been very messy) with paints and glass markers. The colours look totally delicious and I can’t wait to use all of them.

The paints are from the Americana collection  – good for all purpose painting and crafting.
The glass markers also work on tile and glazed ceramics.
They come with a fine tip and are glossy and translucent.

I grabbed some glass trivets because I was overly-anxious and impatient to test out these babies and so I grabbed the first thing I found in my glass inventory.

These are ‘test plates’ as you will see there is not much rhyme or reason to the design. I painted on the top and bottom. I used the Americans acrylics for a base coat on  the one trivet and love the effect. It helps me create a glass canvas.

On the other trivet I used Ann Butler faux quilting stamps and they took the paint beautifully.
I blobbed, dotted, drew and coloured in with the markers and I love the results.

This was all just a preliminary attack and not an actual ‘sit-down blogging’ session.
So please stay tuned for many wonderful adventures with DecoArt products!

~Roberta

What a great night! Thank you to everyone who came out to watch robi@nite February 10th!  Inspired by some of my vintage jewelery, I featured how to make enamel-look cloisonne.  I am so pleased with the results.
Using silver metal duct tape and various paints, the lovely look of cloisonne can be replicated.
For the live show, I demonstrated how I made the heart.
Supplies used were: Styrofoam heart, metal tape, Cuttlebug embosser,  Love Is In The Air Cuttlebug Embossing Folder, Ranger Adirondack Alcohol Inks, Marvy DecoColor Opaque Paint Markers, Staedtler Triplus fineliners, Pilot Super Color Permanent Ink – Gold, Ranger Glossy Accents.
This is the Embossing Folder I used from the Love Is In The Air set (there were 6 folders in all)
After the show I worked on my demo piece and also found that Bic Sharpies work beautifully as well.
I also shared pieces of my vintage jewelery collection; some pieces dating back to the turn of the 20th century.
Our lucky winner for the night was Zamaluzza – who won a beautiful charm bracelet. Congratulations Zama!!
The theme for next week (February 17) is : Fun In The Sun!
Thank you for stopping by and until we meet again,

Cloisonné is an ancient technique for decorating metalwork objects, in recent centuries using vitreous enamel, and in older periods also inlays of cut gemstones, glass, and other materials. The resulting objects can also be called cloisonné.
I have always loved cloisonné and I am also going to share a few of my favourite pieces from my collection  , including a beautiful necklace and vase.  While on my hunt for that necklace, I came across many vintage pieces of jewelery which I would also like to share with you tonight.  Many pieces are from the 1940’s and a couple are from the 1920’s.  There are rings, bracelets, earrings and brooches.  Perhaps they might inspire you in your art?
I will have a quick ‘warm up’ demo that I find  very relaxing. During last week’s show I briefly showed you some of my sketches of trees, and more specifically, mountains.  It’s the mountains and their negative shapes that I will focus on.
As always, there will be a giveaway at the end of the show — and tonight, being jewelery-themed, well…. let’s just say it’s theme-related 🙂

So grab your Snuggies, a few of your friends, maybe your sketch pad and pencil, and visit with me tonight!
The show begins at 11:59 pm EST.  That is 9 pm PST, 10 pm MST, and 11 pm CST.
The room will open at 11:30 pm EST for pre-show CHAT, crackers and cheese, and beverages 🙂

I had such a great time tonight and the hour just seems to fly by.  I experienced some video issues for the first 15 minutes, but after that, everything was golden.  One hour doesn’t seem like enough time.

Tonight I showed how to make a Mosaic from the leftover plaster from another project.  Economical and VERY ECO-Friendly because everything is used, recycled, and nothing is thrown in the garbage.  Normally when you use plaster and have it in a container, it is best to let it dry and then you could dump it in the garbage (NEVER down the sink).
But now I can get even bigger bang for my buck by using up ALL my plaster:)

There is always a game or contest  — This was the contest tonight?  Can YOU guess what this item is?
Mosaic using cardboard, clear-drying glue, plaster chips, Beinfang Watercolor Brushes, Martha Stewart Markers.
Wire Art — You can make letters, objects, paperclips…
Here is the list of all the Products I used tonight:
Marvy Le Plume II paint markers   http://tinyurl.com/4hgqw2f
Bienfang Watercolor Brush Pens http://tinyurl.com/477o4nb
Adirondack Alcohol Inks and Metallic fixatives  http://www.rangerink.com/alcohol_ink.htm
Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive

plaster scraps
Black acrylic PLAID paint
copper wire
telephone wire
Posable Magnifying Glass

I hope you enjoy it.
Tonight’s show featured plaster shapes; using molds found in discount and dollar stores; even Valentine chocolates couldn’t escape giving their lives for a plaster shape!
We experimented with 3 different painting mediums: acrylic, watercolour, and alcohol inks.
These pieces that you can totally personalize can be used in so many ways: as a pendant, ring, pin, card embellishment or to dress up a painted box.  How about turning them into beautiful magnets?
I had hoped to show a Gallery Glass Project but we didn’t have enough time.  In a future episode I will demonstrate how to make a faux-stained glass Irises trivet — my favourite!!!

Faux Stained Glass Trivet –  Irises

NEXT THURSDAY ON ‘robi@nite’:
Creating cards with free graphic art
and
Mosaics –  the most eco-friendly mosaic project EVER!!!!

(Here’s a hint:  I do not use tile and I do not use eggshells!!!)
Curious???
Tune in next Thursday @Midnite EST! robi@nite

Please don’t tell my paint chips but…. Part One

Standard
It’s time for another confession.
I have been unfaithful.  PLEASE don’t judge me….

On my recent trip to Lowes, I left my beloved paint chips on one side of the aisle, and I crossed over — to the kitchen department and the countertop ‘chips’.

Wood grain, granite, marble — matte or glossy finish — lots of possibilities.
I chose 6 or so samples to start with, and took 2 of each;  I wasn’t sure if I was going to put them back-to-back, or just use it as a single, or if I was going to work on the finished or backside of the sample.

The hole would make it perfect for a tag or ornament and I was undecided if I would use pretty wires or ribbons or yarn.  I could worry about that later:)
Looking at the finishes, I knew I would have to deal with the glossy/finished surfaces depending on what I wanted to embellish them with.  I discovered quite quickly that using paint required priming with a primer or sanding the surface.  Sanding a pretty surface would defeat the purpose,(and I’m a poet and just don’t know it)… anyway…..  on to my first project….

table, tr, td, li, p, div {font-family:Papyrus; color:000000; font-size:15px;}.btext {font-family:Papyrus; color:000000; font-size:15px;}.blacktext10 {font-family:Papyrus; color:000000; font-size:15px;}.blacktext12 {font-family:Papyrus; color:000000; font-size:15px;}.lightbluetext8 {font-family:Papyrus; color:000000; font-size:15px;}.orangetext15 {font-family:Papyrus; color:000000; font-size:15px;}.redtext {font-family:Papyrus; color:000000; font-size:15px;}.redbtext {font-family:Papyrus; color:000000; font-size:15px;}.text {font-family:Papyrus; color:000000; font-size:15px;}.whitetext12 {font-family:Papyrus; color:000000; font-size:15px;}a:active, a:visited, a:link {font-family:Papyrus; color:000000; font-size:15px;}a:hover {font-family:Papyrus; color:000000; font-size:15px;}a.navbar:active, a.navbar:visited, a.navbar:link {font-family:Papyrus; color:000000; font-size:15px;}a.navbar:hover {font-family:Papyrus; color:000000; font-size:15px;}a.redlink:active, a.redlink:visited, a.redlink:link {font-family:Papyrus; color:000000; font-size:15px;}a.redlink:hover {font-family:Papyrus; color:000000; font-size:15px;}.nametext {font-family:Papyrus; color:000000; font-size:15px;}

Thanks to Tiffany Windsor I fell in love with texture magic. Tiffany loves working with this product and has demonstrated many projects using it.  I purchased a tube from Michaels (with my 50% off coupon because God forbid I pay full retail) and decided to give it a whirl.
I used one of my (MANY) Fiskars embossing templates for the fleur de lis pattern.
Texture Magic – cashmere colour.  I wanted a whiter colour but this was all that was in stock at the time.
I was curious to see how embossing powder would work out on a glossy surface and discovered it was perfect but I wasn’t pleased with just that pink pattern, so that is when I whipped out the Texture Magic and made the fleur de lis.

You can better see the pink embossing I did under the fleur de lis.  Also, I embossed “For You” on the sample on the right.

Drying — Yes, they are hanging from a water glass.  I found that by attaching wire I could hang them anywhere and even bend it to prop up the samples as I worked on them.

Works in Progress —  Various techniques I am using:
Paint chips decoupaged, paper flower embellished with 3D Laquer, wire, acrylic paint.
Punched flowers decoupaged, paint, alcohol inks

Decoupage, rubber stamp, paint, alcohol ink

Acrylic paint, flocking, alcohol inks, embossing, wire, stamp

Silver decorative wire mesh, glitter.

Please Stay tuned for the finished products………..
